In today’s digital age where people spend much of their time on screens, particularly on social media, Facebook has firmly established itself as one of the leading social media platforms in the world. Facebook was one of the earliest, and most successful, social platforms that continues to grow. Whether for a personal profile or a business page, with over 2.8 billion active users, this social network connects people, businesses, and public figures like never before.
So, if you’re trying to figure out who it is you are following, you’ll want to check out this post.
Whether you use Facebook for personal connections, following your favorite public figures (such as music artists), or promoting your business with a Facebook Page, it’s important to know how to navigate your Facebook account.
In this post, I’ll walk you through the steps to see who you are following on Facebook, including your friends, pages, and more.
How to See Who I am following on Facebook
These simple steps will allow you to access the list of people, pages, and accounts you are following on Facebook.
Viewing Your Friend List on Desktop or Mobile App:
- Log in to your Facebook account by visiting www.facebook.com in your web browser or on your mobile phone.
- After you get logged in, click on your profile picture or your name at the top right of the page to access your Facebook profile (or bottom right in mobile). *If you have more than one account or page, you may see a ‘See all profiles’ option, or a drop-down carrot on the mobile app. Select the one you want to use.
- From here, you’ll find a ‘Friends’ tab just below your cover photo (or under the section ‘People You May Know’). Click on it to view your list of Facebook friends.
- If you want to see the pages or accounts you are following, click on the “Following” tab located next to “Friends” on your profile. From here, select the “Following” option. This will display the list of pages and accounts you are following.
Viewing Your List of Followers:
- Open the Facebook app on your mobile device. If you don’t already have it installed, you can download it from the app store. I have actually had to uninstall and reinstall my mobile app a few times due to some glitches in the past.
- Once you are in your profile or page, you should see ‘likes’ and ‘followers’, just below your name. There may not be a visible button (depending on future updates), but you will be able to directly click on the words ‘like’ or ‘followers’ to navigate to the list of your followers.
- You can either scroll through your list of followers, or you can find a specific follower by using the search bar.
- You can also view your Facebook followers from the ‘Likes’ tab, but these pages or profiles will be added to your followers list as well.
- To view the pages or accounts you are following, you can go over to the following section and see that list.
*Note, that not all profiles will have the following feature activated. If you don’t see the following button appear when you hover over someone’s profile, and only see the ‘add friend’ option, then they have not activated that feature. This can be changed in the follow settings by clicking the three-dot icons button and select ‘turn on professional mode’.
To view any groups you are in, you can navigate to this page using the top toolbar (in desktop) and find the group icon. This looks like three silhouetted cartoon people with a circle around them. In the mobile app, you will need to select your profile icon at the bottom right and select ‘Groups’ under the ‘All shortcuts’ section.

Facebook Privacy Settings:
Facebook offers some privacy options in their settings, allowing you to control who can see your own content and who can follow you. You can also unfollow people or pages if you no longer wish to see their updates on your news feed. And you can also block profiles or pages from viewing your content.
You can also choose to restrict content to private, or public. Just be aware that if you use Facebook for business purposes, that you have your settings adjusted how you want them.
Remember that public figures, businesses, and non-friend followers can have different privacy settings, and you might be able to see their public updates even if they’re not on your friends list.
Additional Tips and Insights:
- Activity Log: Facebook also provides an “Activity Log” where you can review all your activity on the platform, including what you’ve liked, commented on, who you’ve followed, messages, saved items, groups, posts and pretty much any other interaction you can track. You can access this log from your profile settings, or page settings.
- Facebook Algorithm: Keep in mind that the Facebook algorithm determines what appears on your news feed. Following pages and accounts that provide relevant content and engaging with their posts can improve your Facebook experience.
- Following Pages: Following or liking your favorite pages ensures you receive regular updates from them, making it easier to stay connected and informed about their latest news. If you feel that you are being bombarded by their notifications, you can sometimes choose to remove or block notification options, or simply unfollow them.
- Third-Party Apps: Be cautious about granting access to third-party apps, as they may request permission to access your Facebook data. Always review any disclaimers and other legal documents prior to agreeing to any terms, if you are concerned about privacy.
- Dual Authentication: Increase your security by activating dual authentication so that when you sign into Facebook, you are required to complete a second step prior to being logged in.
Facebook is more than just a platform for connecting with friends. It’s a valuable tool for staying updated with relevant content, connecting with businesses, and following public figures. Knowing how to see who you are following on Facebook, and who is following you, gives you valuable insights into your social media interactions, especially if you have a business page, or want to be a social media influencer.
