Why I made the Switch

Like many others before me, I heard about the all-famous ‘ super affordable’ Bluehost service. And like many others, I fell into the trap of trying them out for my first year, because it was the ‘cheapest’ option at the time.

But little did I know how terrible my experience with Bluehost was going to be. From trying to figure out the technical issues to calling tech support multiple times to fix the same problems. Website hosting is like the lease or rent that you pay for your house to live on. You do not own the land, but you do own your house (your website), and someone else has to take care of the land that your house (your site) sits on. Now, to continue this metaphor, no one wants to visit your house if it looks trashy and run down, or if the grass is way too high. You just won’t get any visitors.

So don’t get distracted and believe that the cheapest option is really the best. Because for me, Bluehost actually ended up costing me more in the long run.

When I decided to Switch Hosts

After about 6-9 months of using Bluehost, I started to really experience the worst of my struggles. Every once in a while, around the 6-month time frame, my site would crash for a few minutes and then come back online. I just assumed that this was a fluke, and was a normal part of having a website, so I waved it off and didn’t think much of it. These short crashes happened maybe once every week or two.

Now, fast forward a few months, and these crashes not only became more common, but they also lasted much longer. I could no longer assume that this was ‘normal’, and had to find out more about the problem. So after calling tech support, they told me something in the manner of “It’s an ongoing issue we’ve had with this server, we know about this issue and are doing what we can to fix it”.

They essentially didn’t do anything to actually fix this issue because I continued to have this same exact problem for the next few weeks. And over this time I started doing some research into new hosting services because I’d had enough of their excuses and poor service.

My Personal Experience with Lyrical Host

When I started my blogging journey, I went with probably one of the worst hosting services out there (aka Bluehost). With the Tiny plan, it’s estimated that your bandwidth can handle up to 50,000 visitors per month. Though, this always depends on the site.

All hosting plans include WordPress-optimized speed and starts at 100GB of bandwidth for the Tiny plan, and unlimited bandwidth for the Boss plan.

As I previously mentioned, if you’re on the Tiny plan, this will allow you to have around 50,000 visitors per month with no issue. However, if you go over this amount on a viral post, your site won’t be shut down. Unfortunately, it took me longer than I thought to switch themes, but when I was ready, all I had to do was let them know, and they quickly make my staging site live. So my live site was never in danger.
